Mosaic Monday
I was reading the "Midway" section of the Sunday paper last night about Prairie Moon Waldorf School just outside of Lawrence, KS. It's a private preK-12 school that uses a method of teaching I haven't come across yet in my research on teaching methods. Basically, the Waldorf method uses an artistic, integrative and classical approach to teaching. I'll post more about my educational method musings at another time. Anyhow, that article inspired me to have the girls do some art today and they loved it! They made a simple mosaic (with no rhyme or reason to their design at this age) out of dried beans/peas/lentils. The medium they placed the beans in is a mixture of 1/3 C salt, 1/3 C flour (may need a bit more) and 1/3 C water. Mix well and press it onto a plate (we used pie tins). Then you decorate and let it dry for 2-5 days. Enjoy!
Abigail examining her bean before sticking it in the dough.
Maddie's finished mosaic!
Abbie's showing me her finished product as she digs her finger into the edge.

This sounds like so much fun! I can't wait to try it with the boys! Thanks for the idea.
You're such a terrific mom!
They turned out so cute!! I am definitely going to try this one with Hudson. And I would love to read a post on your teaching methods research. :)
Oh, and by the way, you are seriously awesome! I hope you rub off on me... :)

I'm inspired! I need to try this with Darren! Thanks for sharing!
What a clever idea! Thanks for sharing it. I think it will be a perfect FHE activity.
We are going to do this today with the boys! I took Walker and Kyler to the store yesterday and let them pick out candy of all different shapes and colors to use. You are so creative...keep posting your arts and crafts so my kids will have things to do!!! Wish you were here to do it with us, we really miss you guys! More snow last night. Hunter was making snow angels waiting for the bus. Come back and play with us!!!
What a great idea! That makes me feel like I need to be doing much more with my own kids. I always feel like I can't catch up with my home and the things I need to be doing. I think Aiden would love doing a Mosiac, thanks for the wonderful idea.
