On
New Year's Eve we went to an important historical site here in Topeka:
Brown v. Board of Education. It's the old Monroe Elementary School that was the jumping off point for desegregation of schools. When you first walk in, there are signs saying "
Colored" pointing to the right of the school and "
White" pointing to the left. It was quite sobering to see how things were back in the 50s. The girls enjoyed the hands-on, multi-media exhibits while Jeremy and I were
inspired by the images and history.
Abbie is recording her thoughts on the exhibit in the Kindergarten room. And no, she didn't fall off the stool.
Here's Madeline drawing her impressions of desegregation. It makes people happy!
I think Jeremy read each display. He loves to read everything while I like to read sporadically.Ringing in the New Year was spent at home with the kiddos. We had a web video chat with
Jeremy's family back in Alaska. No one went to bed before all the fireworks after midnight. The girls stayed up to listen and watch them all around our townhouse.
So it was quite a late night for everyone, which meant we slept in a bit, and then took
LOOOOONG naps today...and the house was in disrepair because we were too tired to clean. However, after waking from naps at about 6pm (YIKES!), the girls helped clean up.
This is where Madeline slept until 6:30 pm. Brayton and Abbie were on the floor for diaper changes and Abigail decided to snuggle between her two siblings. It was a wonderful 2008 and it'll be a great 2009!

Happy New Year!
You guys are having such an adventure! And the girls are getting so big! Can you make that stop???
Has Jeremy enjoyed his break between semesters? When does he start back to school?
Your's was definitely more exciting than ours. Rikk was at work and after I put the kiddos to bed, I hit the hay too!
It sounds like you guys are having so much fun and have so many new things to go and do. Have some fun for us. And the girls look so much bigger, especially Abby, she looks so much older.
Glad your 2008 was great and hope your 2009 is even better. WE MISS YOU!!!
Happy New Year! It is so nice to do the video chat with you guys. I can't tell you how much we miss you but it just brings you that much closer to us so we are thankful for that.
I hope to see that school one day as I've read a lot about it...I think I might cry though. I always cry when I'm at those places where real people were real heroes.
I love the pictures of the kids all snuggling on the floor...too cute! Love to all!
