I was hesitant, since I know I'll miss my girls and my sweet husband dearly. Dearly. IMMENSLY! I then started thinking of all the "what if" scenarios that could happen with Jeremy driving solo and me at home alone (Brayton can't really fend someone off if they're attacking us in the night. Yes, I think of those highly unlikely kinds of things).
We said a prayer together.
It will be OK.
We'll have an increased appreciation for each other. It will be a nice break. It will be more enjoyable for everyone without having a screaming baby and mother in a car for that loooong drive. We will have time to bond with our children more fully. We have the means, so why not?
It will be OK.
I got my ticket last night. I bought (with air miles, of course) the last seat on a red eye to Denver...it's in First Class...(at no extra charge even!)and a super duper cheap ticket onward to Kansas City. I'll be home before Jeremy even has the car loaded and pulls out of the driveway.
It will be bitter-sweet, the girls may scream bloody murder when I'm dropped off at the airport, it may be tough doing things without the other helpmeet, I may cry myself to sleep, but it will be OK.

We are excited to see you. Let us know if you need a ride back to Topeka.
Can't wait to see you!! Let me know if you need anything!
wow! Good luck driving Jeremy. If you come through Mountain Home again and need a place to crash you are welcome here. Dahlia you are lucky to have such a good husband. Enjoy your flight home.
It's going to be GREAT! What a wonderful adventure for each of you!!! The girls will have the memories of their OWN trip with Dad. Madelyn (did I spell that right? I'm too lazy to go check) will remember when she got to be the one in charge, because Mom wasn't there.
Good for you! These are the experiences that last a lifetime!
I will be praying for you on your flight with Brayton, and Jeremy on his drive with the girls. I've flown many times by myself with both girls...and several more when I only had Cassie. You all will be fine. God will have His mighty hand upon you both on your ventures back to Kansas. Blessings! (I will miss our nearly daily visits.)
That will be SO nice for you!! I am sure you are apprehensive about it though. I hope everything goes well and I will be thinking about you. Can't wait to see you all soon!
I think once you hear the stories from Jeremy when you see him again that you will both appreciate your flight and be a little sad that you missed some of the adventures but I also think it will be a good thing for all of you. It will give Jeremy and the girls some good bonding time and give you some time with just you and Brayton. I think as parents we need these times with our children to remind them that each one is special and deserves our personal attention that we aren't always able to give when everyone is around. So, enjoy your First Class because you certainly deserve it and hang in there Jeremy, 5 days will come to an end before you know it. ;)
Rikk drove to Anchorage with the boys and all had a blast. Then being Mr. Mom for three months really helped him to appreciate what I did everyday when he was at work. It also made him appreciate work even more! And made me appreciate him taking off work to take care of the kids instead of asking for others to do it. It will be good for both of you and the kids will have a lot of fun, you'll see.
Great choice!
