The Newest Blue Penguin

Jeremy's swim coach, Mary, from his city team (back during his high school years) was visiting our friends in Anchorage so we stopped over for a visit this past weekend. He had a great time catching up with her, and our friends too.

While we were there, we received a soccer uniform for Maddie (Shannon is the team's coach) so she could play the last 5 games. She was a bit shy about it, but once we got her on the field, she LOVED it! I'm glad she's just getting some fresh air and has a chance to play with some new friends.

No thanks Abbie, I can't eat a cookie while I'm playing. Take it away!

I saw this from afar and later asked Madeline what they were cheering about. She said they put their hands together and said "1, 2, 3, Best friends forever!" I am just amazed at how easily kids become friends....definitely something that adults can be inspired by (me included).
Madeline was able to kick the ball around a bit, dribble it a little ways, and steal it away for her team. Usually if she's running with someone and they get ahead, she'll stop, fall down, and cry. She didn't do that at all in her games (thank goodness!).
Here's the cheering section. Abbie and Brayton loved being outdoors. We're getting some smoke from a forest fire near Denali, but it was barely smellable (is that even a word?)...I was more concerned with staying cool in the 80 degree heat! Yes, we're really going to suffer when we get back to the 100+ heat in Topeka...
And nothing is as refreshing as a raw spear of broccoli. Seriously, she got snacks/gatorade after the game, but preferred her veggies.

I'm glad you guys are having so much fun. The thing I noticed most about these pictures is the fact that the kids were able to sit ON the grass. There are so many bugs here that we've been told not to do that ... I so want to have picnics on the grass again. We're excited to see you again!

Hey Dahlia! I'm wondering how young kids can start soccer...Sarah's only 2 and can dribble and keep up with a soccer ball. I want to get her in soccer and Cassie wants to do gymnastics. I can put Cassie in gymnastics as part of her homeschooling and have it covered. It's great that your little penguin has found something she enjoys while up here. It's been so nice seeing you so often!
