Delayed Gratification

Want to see what we bought? It's a bit scary. And daunting. And uncomfortable. And freeing. All wrapped up into one package (which hasn't arrived just yet). I'll give you a hint: it's only paper. Paper that can bring on waves of felt and new emotions.

You may think "haven't they learned from the last time?" yes, we have, and that's why we're doing it again. You could think "they're crazy!" or "what the?!" or maybe even "how the?!"

What we're thinking is "what an adventure!" but mostly "we can do this...it will work"

We will be better off financially, it will bring the family together, and we'll have space for visitors when the entire project is complete.

OK, do you want to know what it is? 4 sets of blueprints and a materials list for this:

That's right, a garage! We sold our house, moved across the country, took out student loans, are still waiting on a job prospect, all to build and live in a GARAGE?! Scary, isn't it?
But it is freeing.

We can build this quickly and inexpensively without going into debt. We will then build our HOUSE adjacent to the garage apartment out of pocket. So, no rent, no mortgage, perfect!

Once we move into the HOUSE (probably a few years from now), we'll cut a big hole in the front of the garage for its door (it will have a real wall instead of a door while we're living there so we won't freeze in the winter, as garage doors aren't that insulative). Then Jeremy has a spot to build his airplane and we can rent out the apartment above or have the missionaries put it to use.
Afterall, we've turned this (the solid green rectangle):

Into THIS before...and we'll get to do it all over again.
We will have a home. Our house, however, will come in time.

I love the house, garage idea. What a great way to build. Very 4th turning:) And I have you on my list for the discussion. I'm so excited you will be joining us.
Yes, we get Glen Beck here. I listen to him every morning, and Shawn watches all his news clips online. I think he really understands what is going on.

How exciting! Yay! More fun ahead. I love living in an affordable house and being able to put the extra money to other uses.

It's perfect! Perfect! Jake and I have had this discussion again and again. It's exactly what we would do if we were doing it over again! So exciting for you!

Yep, already knew that was the plan but still kind of shocking to see it in print. So, where do you live while you build the garage? Am thinking it will take a few months at least to complete. Do you have a lot purchased, picked out, ect...? I know we've gotten the benefit of hearing some of the plan to this point but I also know you're an organizer so I'm sure you already have a plan for all those little details. Don't forget, our doors are always open (provided we have them lol) and you are always welcome for as long as you need to stay. Love you all!

I hope it all works out fabulously.

Are you staying in Kansas for this adventure or are you coming back to Alaska to build?
