Fact: He likes to hang on to stuff that has no immediate purpose.
Fact: He uses sectionals (aviation maps) when flying.
Fact: Sectionals have an expiration date.
Our basement houses a moving box of expired sectionals (it's amazing what we paid to have moved down here). I found ones of Wisconsin and Chicago and Minnesota and Phoenix and Anchorage...and I decided to do something with all of this paper. My mother-in-law uses them for wrapping paper (brilliant!), but I had something else in mind...
I thought the sectionals from the '90s of Wisconsin were sentimental as that's when he started flying frequently enough and earned his license. So I chose a select few and started a small project to decorate Brayton's room.
This fall at a garage sale, I found these for $.50 each (STEAL!):
What things do you have lying around that deserve some proper honor?

nice work dahlia! That is so great. I recently did some spray painting of frames, but nothing that cool. Perfect for a boy's room!
Cool! I think the dents and scratches add character - people work hard to create the distressed look! Way to reuse!
Love these! They turned out great!!
How fun! I LOVE these kinds of projects. Ty has a tendency to hold on to stuff too. I'm okay with that as long as he treats these things like they are worth keeping. We enjoy coming up with creative ways to display or reuse things. If we can't think of any good way to do that, then we purge!
Dahlia, you are just so creative, I really am jealous!
Seriously! How much do I LOVE those???!!! Those are awesome!!
I'm definitely going to do some of those for the boys' rooms!
Dahlia, you're an inspiration! I love your ideas! What a great idea for the sectionals...and I will have to keep that in mind, as I'm sure Mike will have sectionals too. He's about to go on a trip with a few guys from work...commercial flying to get an airplane in Phoenix to fly up to Anchorage. He's excited!
I remember hearing something on one of the organizing show, and you've put it to practice. If it's important, treat it that way, or get rid of it, as it's disrespected by sitting in a box. So...I, after over a decade of collecting pachiderms, I decided it's time to purge my house of them. They used to be significant for a very high school reason. So, I've picked out a handful of ones I really like or that are truly special, and the rest are in 2 big boxes that I'll be posting in lots on ebay. One box of stuffed animals the other of collectibles. I wasn't honoring them, and holding onto them because I used to like collecting them, but I collect enough other stuff that is more important...like photos of my kids that I aspire to hang on the walls rather than putting elephant collectibles on display.
God bless you! Love ya! Hope to see you this summer some time.

Ok, I am WAAAAAAAAAAY behind the times (and for that, I am sorry) but I HAD to comment on this post. You say the third picture "Michigan" has no relevance. That is where Tayllor is hoping to go to college and play for Michigan University! So, who knows, it may have some bearing down the road :)
